Silver Beach (Thong Takhian Beach) – Best Beach in Koh Samui

Thailand is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and Silver Beach is no exception. Sitting quaintly on the east side of the island of Koh Samui, Silver Beach offers some of the most breathtaking landscapes and provides an intimate escape for tourists and locals alike.

By far one of the best beaches in Koh Samui, Silver Beach is just one of a few names designated to this beautiful beach, it is also known as Haad Thong Ta-Khian meaning Crystal Bay. It is a smaller beach, only about 250 meters, and is tucked in between lush tropical hills on all sides. 

You can get flights from Bangkok to Koh Samui for an average of $137 USD for a one-way. Once on the beautiful island, you can choose to either take a taxi or rent a scooter for the day to travel to Silver Beach. A taxi would get you there in about 13 minutes and cost between $14-$18. There are 3-4 smaller resorts right there on the beach that might just be the right place to stay if you’re wanting to keep your travels more secluded.

The waters are shallow, warm and crystal clear. Not to alarm anyone, but the waters are also infested with jellyfish of all sizes and levels of translucence. It was very hard to spot them, but once we did, we saw tons of them.

Silver Beach offers both an explorable and a relaxing environment. There are boulders on either side of the beach that allow for more adventurous needs to be met. You can get some cool photos and get away from the beach crowd by climbing around. You can also simply lay and bask in the Thai sun right there on the white sand beach. Beware that there are not that many trees for natural shade, so bring an umbrella and lots of sunscreen if you need a sun escape.

You can also just step on up to one of the restaurants located on the resorts’ properties to get out of the sun and cool off. Thongtakian Resort is one of the newer resorts on the beach and has a convenient beachfront bar/restaurant where they host live music and make great tropical and refreshing drinks, not to mention a happy hour.

It really does not come as a surprise that Silver Beach in Koh Samui is the top rated beach in the region by TripAdvisor. If Thailand is on your vacation list, it is worth the time and expense to visit the stunning island of Koh Samui and enjoy the serenity that Silver Beach has to offer.
